“My lessons offer a supportive and nurturing environment to help students of any level develop their technical and musical abilities on the instrument. Together, we can work our way through the centuries of available repertoire to discover and hone the student's musical tastes and personalities along the way. Above all, I hope to communicate the joy of making music. “

Cara Dawson
BIO
Cara Dawson is an award-winning harpist from England with a reputation spanning various musical scenes. She is a graduate of renowned institutions; Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Trinity Laban Conservatoire with a First Class Honours Degree, and earlier at Chethams School of Music. She now continues with a Master in Harp Performance at Universität der Künste Berlin, with an emphasis on New Music. Her awards have included the Ida Caroll Award for Strings, Henry Wood Trust Scholarship, and the John Marson Harp Award for Outstanding Musicianship.
An experienced orchestral player, Cara has built a career performing in many of the UK and Germany's major concert halls, including Barbican Concert Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Royal Festival Hall, and Berlin Philharmonie, under the baton of many noted conductors, including François-Xavier Roth. She now works regularly as a freelance harpist in Berlin with various orchestras, as well as solo and chamber projects. She also collaborates continually with composers on developing new works for harp solo and within ensembles. As a recording artist, she has released work with Da Vinci Classics and the State51 Conspiracy.
As a teacher, Cara is committed to each student's personal goals. Her approach is always to work in a kind and encouraging atmosphere, as she is passionate about students enjoying all their time at the harp, be it in lessons, performances, and practice time. She believes in creating a solid foundation in technical agility through exercises for both fingers and feet (if learning pedal harp) to allow ease of musicality. Lessons also include awareness of posture, sight reading, sound quality, and performance skills in both solo and ensemble playing. Cara has completed courses in harp pedagogy at the Guildhall School and general musical pedagogy at Trinity Laban.
